Defining and managing a catalog of business and IT service products is critical to managing the relationships between organizational units and external partners. The service product description makes clear what deliverables can be expected, for what price and in which quality. This transparency manages the expectations between the provider and consumer the service by enabling comparison of similar services from different providers. It also encourages competitiveness in pricing and quality as well as facilitates trade-offs between the two. Service products have an architecture made up of business and/or IT assets.
