Alfabet Portfolio Playbooks: Planning the IT Portfolio – Vendors and Contracts
Managing the IT portfolio involves many different architecture perspectives such as the business, solution, and information architectures. These help us understand the organization and the impact of changing it. They guide our portfolio management and planning. One perspective that gets little attention, however, is that of the vendors and contracts associated with these architectures. From a strategic viewpoint these can be seen as “just” operative parameters associated with the implementation and running of the IT portfolio. Yet they can have a very big impact on strategy execution. The failure of a strategic vendor or inability to withdraw from a contract can push strategy off course. In this playbook session we look at how to include vendor and contract aspects into planning the IT portfolio to successfully deliver on strategy.
